RMS (record mgmt solutions?) collection troubles

Question:
At 8:59 AM on 5/4/2004 a collection outfit called RMS - (record management solutions?) called concerning someone with the same name as me, as owing money. I called back and explained that I was not who they were looking for, and directed the person I called, to take my phone number off their list and not to call again. Understand that the only thing I have in common with the person they were looking for is the same first and last name - the middle initial was different. On principle, I declined to give parts of my social security number. She assured me that RMS would not call again. Two days later, at 4:56 PM, I got a prerecord from the same outfit - (651-457-1130) - a prerecord that would NOT disconnect when I tried to hang up. The prerecord gave a toll free number to call, which was non working (800-299-8301). I called the non tollfree number and demanded that they remove my number again, and said that harrassment charges would be a consequence if they ever called my number again. RMS alleges that the prerecords that they make are legal (after being told that they would not allow disconnects). My questions:
1. Has anyone else had trouble with RMS?
2. Has anyone charged RMS with telephone harrassment?
3. Has anyone else experienced the prerecorded calls that won't allow a disconnect when you attempt to hang up?
4. Has anyone pursued complaints against RMS?

Answer:
I just received a call today where the same number was left by a woman named Sheila at ext. #5176. She only used my first name, and said, "I need you to call me today.". I did some digging that will hopefully be helpful to you, as your post was helpful to me (I'm not calling THEM back!): Company Name: Receivables Management Solutions, Inc. Address: 260 E. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul, MN 55118 Phone: 800-299-8301 Contact: Robert C. Durham License #: 0904371 This information was found on: www.azbanking.com/Lists/Dounload/CA_List.CSV It seems that AZ Banking has a contract with RMS, Inc. that expires on
01/31/2005. I'm going to do some checking on AZ Banking and get back with you. The web page above lists hundreds of other collection agencies, all expiring their contracts on 01/31/2005. I don't owe any money, either. Remember, on the phone message that "Sheila" left, she only used my first name. Something's fishy. Good luck, and don't answer any calls from them, answering machine messages will be good evidence for a harrassment suit. Talk to you soon.
